Prayer for Vocations
O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God. Give them courage and strength to follow God’s holy will. Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vineyards where they will labor in God’s holy service. Amen....

Peñafrancia de Mayo 2012
The regular monthly meeting of the Basilica priests this month focused on activities for summer, dubbed Peñafrancia de Mayo, to avoid previous use of the word “festival” that has become closely associated with non-religious events. The planning starts this early because in May 2012, Ina’s basilica will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its solemn blessing and dedication that took place May 22, 1982 and officiated by the late Jaime Cardinal Sin. Five major activities are slated: (1) Archdiocesan Pilgrimage and Flores de Mayo on the four Saturdays of May to be assigned to the four districts of the Archdiocese of...
Apostle’s Creed
The Symbolum Apostolorum was developed between the second and ninth centuries. It is the most popular creed used in worship by Western Christians. Its central doctrines are those of the Trinity and God the Creator. It has been called the Creed of Creeds. Although not written by apostles, the Apostles’ Creed reflects the theological formulations of the first century church. The creed’s structure may be based on Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In a time when most Christians were illiterate, oral repetition of...
Vicarial Meeting
Almost 50 priests of the Central Vicariates (comprising the parishes and institutions of Naga City and suburbs) had a meeting at  the Metropolitan Cathedral last January 17. The monthly meeting was practically a review of the archdiocesan policies  concerning the Curia and the financial as well as temporal administration of the parish. It was a fruitful gathering that ended with a fellowship of the clergy....

Week of Unity in Prayer
After leading the Angelus on Sunday, Benedict XVI invited the faithful, “as individuals and in communities, to participate spiritually, and where possible practically, in the Week of Prayer, to ask God for the gift of full unity among the disciples of Christ. The Catholic Church participates in this ecumenical initiative, despite not being a member of the World Council of Churches (WCC), a worldwide fellowship of 349 churches seeking unity, common witness and Christian service. The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity concludes on Jan. 25, the feast of the conversion of St. Paul. This year’s theme is “We...
Recovery of ‘apologetics’
In the Catholic Church, it’s true that everything old can be new again, and the Vatican wants one of those things to be the art of “apologetics” — dusted off and updated to respond to new challenges, including those posed by militant atheists. The term “apologetics” literally means “to answer, account for or defend,” and through the 1950s even Catholic high school students were given specific training in responding to questions about Catholicism and challenges to church teaching....
